The SR3600 is the latest version in this line of affordable hand held radar guns. There has been significant improvement in durability and trigger function.- and finally, compatibility with an external display.
So, why are people spending money on units 3 times it's price? It has a range of only 40' for baseball applications. That makes it perfect for back yard, practice field or speed pitch booth use but not professional applications.
However, within it's limited range is easy and consistent operation. It can time most ball applications and even vehicles though I've never used it in that capacity. Where as many of they new cheap radar devices are nothing more than toys, the nicely priced SR3600 is a true radar gun and will function just fine if used within it's specifications.
Everything about this gun from it's 9 volt battery power source to it's point and time ease to it's affordable accessories is well thought out. It's not quite as durable as it's more expensive competitors but then again, if you drop any radar gun on cement I wouldn't expect it to be operational- just handle this unit with a bit more care.
For speed pitch booths it has a nice compact display with LCD numbers which are less likely to malfunction than more expensive flip digit signs. You don't have the visual range as those other displays but it's perfect for a speed booth and the display can be mounted on a standard tripod (although heavy duty is recommended) or the manufacturers table top stand. A more expensive option is to go with their lighted LED display which comes in the standard 4" digit size or a larger 7" digits for long distance viewing and optimum night time usage.
