The name Jugs is traditionally synonamous with radar guns. In fact, up to a few years ago most radar guns were simply referred to as "the Jugs Gun". Those guns however, were bulky and expensive and technically needed an FCC license to operate.
Jugs has released a few models since then and seem to be firmly settled with the latest cordless units which are geared more towards consumers and not the odd scout. The old Tribar units had what I would call "Bombastic" range picking up everything in its powerful path. These new units are a bit more discriminating with a range of about 150' and there have been reports of issues timing through metal fences.
It accessory friendly using the Black and Decker rechargeable Versapak batteries. They charge in only 3 hours and should last all day. And of course, the batteries are inexpensive and can be purchased from any Black and Decker Dealer, though 2 are included with the gun.
You do need to decide if you will be purchasing a display initially or in the future because the standard $795 models do not have data ports. The $895 ported version can be connected to an external Jugs display and is an RS232 data port for connecting to a computer.
The new Jugs 3 digit display is well thought out with a sleek thin metal body and carry handle. Despite the daylight issue LCD displays can have, manufacturers seem to be moving towards using them over the old flip digit numbers. Presumably for repair reasons. The Jugs display is nice and bright so it's effective day or night.
